A report from Ryan at Cal
on the occasion of Brad's birthday.

October 10, 2002

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Evans-

Just thought that I would let you know how things are going so far at
Berkeley. I have just (yesterday) finished up my first round of midterms, in Astronomy and History. I have another midterm next week in my Political Science class. Classes are going well, the biggest challenge so far has been effectively managing my time.

It's taken awhile to get into the groove of college and Cal; I think it will be awhile before I am completely at home here, although it feels more like home every day. Three days a week I am going to sailing practice on Treasure Island. The sailing up here is awesome: it's much windier and and there is more wide open space then in Newport Harbor.

My thoughts are with you and your family today on what would have been Brad's 25 birthday. Thank you again for the generous scholarship.

Sincerely,

Ryan Schultheis
